SPIRILLUM
semester assignment
Prague | SS 2022/23
Project Spirillum displays the possibility of an experimental education system reacting on current insufficient state of academic intitutions. With this project I am emphasizing the need for critical view on outdated notions of power and hierarchy in academic structures. It inherently opens up a discussion about safe space within these organizations and one's mental health that is directly affected by them.
Spirillum IRL
-
safe space in physical world
As one of the main points in presented project is emphatizing the importance of battling mental health issues of staff members/ students/ lecturers in Academia, I am raising a crucial question of finding a 'safe space' within already existing institutions.
The fact that institutes cause or contribute to one's anxieties/ disorders/ panic attacks, etc., is not a novelty, and I am fully aware that it's a complex and systematic issue will take time to handle. But that's why I feel the urge to be part of the solution. When discussing this topic, I have found the often-overlooked function of public toilets and bathrooms to be perfectly suitable for our concept.
These spaces, which are inevitably in every functioning establishment, are hiding their potential behind the obvious primary function.
Spirillum DIGI
- safe space in digital world
When we address the concept of a safe space, we must necessarily mention its availability. Not everyone is lucky enough to have one of these places in their physical space. That's why I created Spirillum that mimics a safe space in the digital world. It is a 3D model, animations, and videos through which I am providing user with a feeling of safety and calmness.
